Tsepo Masilela, a former defender for Kaizer Chiefs, has expressed his views on how the club can enhance its competitiveness against South African football powerhouses like Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates. According to Masilela, the key to consistently challenging these top teams lies in signing more established players from the national team, Bafana Bafana.
Masilela highlighted goalkeeper Brandon Petersen and attacking midfielder Mduduzi Shabalala as players with the potential to become mainstays in the national squad. He believes Shabalala, in particular, needs to focus on delivering consistent performances and increasing his goal contributions to secure a spot on the Bafana Bafana roster.
The former Chiefs star also pointed out that a strong defensive midfielder is crucial for the team’s success. He identified Sphephelo “Yaya” Sithole as an ideal candidate who could fortify the club’s midfield, providing the necessary strength and balance to the existing lineup.
Masilela acknowledged that Kaizer Chiefs have already made some additions to their squad for the 2026/27 season. However, he emphasized the importance of incorporating proven South African internationals into the team if they are to realistically vie for major trophies in the future.
