As Chinese President Xi Jinping commences his visit to Cairo, he emphasizes the significance of strengthening the long-standing relationship between China and Egypt. Upon their arrival in the Egyptian capital, President Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, were greeted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his wife. This visit marks an important milestone as the two nations celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations.
In anticipation of his visit, President Xi expressed his intention to deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Egypt. He highlighted the resilience of their bilateral ties amid global shifts, advocating for joint efforts to align their national development strategies. This includes enhancing collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative, with Xi particularly focusing on practical projects that promise long-term economic growth.
President Xi further outlined the potential for expanded cooperation in diverse sectors such as education, tourism, science and technology, healthcare, sports, and archaeology. He stressed that increased exchanges in these areas would enhance mutual understanding and strengthen the bonds between the Chinese and Egyptian peoples. Moreover, he reiterated the importance of supporting each other on significant issues and safeguarding mutual interests.
Describing Egypt as a key partner, Xi pointed out its crucial role in fostering cooperation between China and both Arab and African countries. He emphasized the importance of collaboration as members of the Global South, urging for closer coordination on international matters, support for multilateral initiatives, and joint actions towards global peace and stability.
This diplomatic visit is anticipated to bolster political and economic ties between Beijing and Cairo, paving the way for new cooperative ventures in trade, infrastructure, technology, and beyond. President Xi affirmed China’s commitment to building upon the seven decades of diplomatic relations and invigorating their comprehensive strategic partnership with renewed vigor.
