Qatar and Egypt have reiterated their dedication to enhancing their bilateral relations, with a focus on expanding cooperation in various sectors such as economic, investment, and labour. During the seventh session of the Qatari-Egyptian Joint Higher Committee held in Cairo, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, engaged in discussions with Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, who is also responsible for Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates. This meeting underscored both nations’ commitment to building on their existing partnership.
Emphasizing the robust economic ties between the two countries, officials noted the significant growth in trade, which saw an 80 percent increase by 2025. The discussions also highlighted the expansion of Qatari investments in Egypt, notably a project aimed at producing sustainable aviation fuel within the Suez Canal Economic Zone. These developments reflect the strengthening economic collaboration between Qatar and Egypt, showcasing their mutual interest in fostering sustainable and innovative ventures.
In addition to economic matters, the meeting touched on labour and consular cooperation. Both sides expressed their intent to enhance these areas, ensuring smoother exchanges and support for their citizens. The conversation extended to regional issues, particularly the ongoing situation in Gaza. Both countries affirmed their commitment to reducing regional tensions and supporting stability through diplomatic avenues, stressing the need for continued coordination on such pressing matters.
Maritime security and the freedom of navigation in critical waterways, namely the Arabian Gulf and the Red Sea, were also prominent topics during the discussions. Qatar and Egypt underlined the importance of these elements in safeguarding international trade routes and maintaining regional stability. By emphasizing these priorities, both countries showcased their resolve to cooperate in areas that have far-reaching implications for global commerce and security.
