Sunday saw a new wave of missile and drone attacks on Kyiv by Russia, resulting in the death of at least one person and injuries to 13 others, as reported by Ukrainian officials. These strikes followed Ukraine’s targeting of logistics facilities and warehouses within Russian territory the previous day.
Residents of the Ukrainian capital were alerted by air-raid warnings of incoming ballistic missiles before explosions were heard across the city. The attacks were reported to have impacted six districts, with the Solomianskyi district witnessing damage to an apartment building. Fires erupted at a supermarket and a residential property in the Sviatoshynskyi district. Additional strikes struck a shopping and entertainment center in the Dniprovskyi district, an apartment building in the Shevchenkivskyi district, and a non-residential facility.
In addition to the attacks on Kyiv, a drone strike by Russia in the central Dnipropetrovsk region resulted in another fatality. Over the border in Russia, officials in the Kursk region confirmed one death following a Ukrainian strike.
This intensified conflict comes in the wake of Ukrainian drone attacks targeting logistics sites in Russia’s Moscow and Tambov regions. Ukrainian authorities have explained that these facilities are connected to the supply of components essential for drone production and navigation systems. Ukraine has been enhancing its long-range attacks against Russian territory, focusing on infrastructure and energy facilities in retaliation for ongoing Russian bombardments since the onset of the war in 2022.
Amid this military escalation, Ukraine is also grappling with internal political tensions following a recent reshuffle in its government. The removal of Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has led to protests in several cities over the past three days, fueling speculation about potential broader changes within the nation’s military leadership.
